West Coast Maritime Ports Experience Challenges for Imports, Exports

Pandemic conditions created a perfect storm at West Coast ports as terminals experience a surge of import cargo delayed from earlier in 2020 and a rush of shipments before the Lunar New Year celebrations in Asia shutter factories. Currently, 28 container vessels remain anchored off the Ports of L.A. and Long Beach due to congestion and delays at terminals. A COVID surge in Southern California impacting the health of dockworkers is contributing to additional concerns.

Due to the high volumes of imported cargo, ocean carriers desperate to return containers empty to Asia are cancelling or rolling bookings of export cargo out of all West Coast ports. The Federal Maritime Commission has raised serious concerns with ocean carriers on this unfair practice. If your export cargo has been impacted, you may file a complaint by clicking here.
