ASTA was recently featured in a WIRED UK article discussing the potential role of gene editing in combatting food waste. “These super crops can save us from climate disaster” highlights innovative plant breeding research that could reduce food waste, a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions.

In other gene editing news, earlier this month the International Business Times published an Op-Ed titled “Climate Change: How Innovative Plant Breeding Can Help Feed the World, Nurture the Planet.” The timely article, supported by Innovature – a joint program of ASTA and BIO – in collaboration with CGIAR, ties into the upcoming UN Food Systems Summit in New York, and calls on global leaders to embrace the critical role of plant breeding innovations, including gene editing, in discussions around building more resilient, inclusive and sustainable food systems.
