Farm Manager
A Farm Manager position in the western U.S. is open for a self- directed, hands on manager with experience in row crop farming. This full-time position will be responsible for field establishment and management growing native plants for seed production. This role will be actively involved using equipment and materials related to the daily farm and crop operations, production, and harvest.
Responsibilities:
• Perform all phases of production, including but not limited to ground prep, chemical application, irrigation, fertilizer application, and pest management
• Perform general farm operations and production
• Monitor and apply quality of crops, pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals used on product
• Recruit and manage farm workers
• Develop and maintain vendor relationships
• Plan daily/weekly farming activities and labor, provide a weekly and seasonal forecast regarding harvest
• Control operating costs
• Maintain good agricultural practices and adhere to all safety policies and procedures
• Communicate with the Corporate office as related to product supplies, logistics, and purchases
• Complete field analysis and management reports
Minimum Skills Preferred
• A Bachelor degree in Agriculture or Agronomy (or related field) from an accredited institution
• Prior work experience in row crop production agriculture, research, and gathering of field information
• Hands on experience with farm equipment, chemical, and fertilizer application
• Ability to perform physical activities on a farm
• Leadership ability to lead and get results from others
• Ability to exercise independent professional judgment, prioritize responsibilities
• Excellent communication skills (i.e. oral and written)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Excel, Word, and Outlook)
• Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task
• Bi-lingual: English and Spanish preferred but not essential
• Compensation:
• Commensurate with experience
