ASTA recently sat down with Washington State University plant breeder Amit Dhingra, who has a deep passion for nutritious food. Amit describes how his childhood experiences growing up in India have motivated him to pursue a career focused in developing a healthier and more secure food system. Amit started his PhD working in rice and has more recently shifted his focus to fruit crops, including more nutritious apples, berries and grapes. As a co-author on a recent scientific paper on the safety of plant breeding, Amit shares his take on the history, and future, of plant breeding – including evolving methods like gene editing. Listen to his interview here.
