The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) Plant Industries Division, Feed Regulatory Program regulates the state’s commercial feed and pet food industries through inspecting firms, sampling and testing products and providing information to consumers. The Seed Regulatory Program regulates the state’s commercial seed industry through inspecting firms, sampling and testing seeds and providing information to consumers to assist in making buying decisions.
Title: Program Coordinator (Consumer Protections Coordinator)
Salary: $49,550.16 annually (plus full state benefit package)
Location: Jefferson City, MO area
What You’ll Do:
• Provide assistance to the Program Manager in the overall management of a complex Plant Industries program; assume responsibility to program activities in the absence of the Program Manager
• Develop auditing procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of inspections and sample collections, recognize trends in the inspection and sampling programs and identify areas in the need of corrective action
• Provide technical assistance and consultation to field personnel; develop and conduct program-specific training courses
• Establish criteria to implement a risk-based inspection plan for the program
• Develop and maintain a coordinated emergency response plan for the feed program
• Evaluate program enforcement strategy and identify improvements that result in improved compliance outcomes
• Identify, develop and employ outreach activities to inform feed industry stakeholders, academia, or consumers about feed topics
• Develop a feed program work plan, evaluation and coordination of resource needs to accomplish the program inspection and sampling activities
• Develop and implement plans for ongoing program self-assessment and improvement
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience (Substitutions may be allowed)
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Considerable knowledge of the nature and objectives of a statewide feed program.
2. Considerable knowledge of applicable state and federal feed regulatory statutes and regulations.
3. Ability to analyze complex data and regulations and make recommendations for new or improved program services.
4. Ability to communicate, interpret and enforce food/feed statutes, regulations, and policies.
5. Ability to plan and coordinate the activities of staff engaged in program implementation.
6. Ability to travel extensively in the performance of assigned duties statewide and out of state.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, government agencies, industry associations and the general public.
8. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and subordinates and to prepare clear and concise reports.
