This position serves as Manager of the Pest Survey and Control Section. Responsibilities include the planning and coordination of statewide programs in plant pest survey and control, including new and emerging plant pests, publication of pest data, plant pest import and biocontrol permits and coordination of Bureau of Plant Industry laboratory services. This position plays a primary role in leading the development and implementation of new pest response programs; developing and implementing program policies, rules and laws; and developing program priorities, goals, and objectives. This position provides technical consultation and directs program planning and evaluation for the section. The position manages supervisory and professional staff and represents the department on national, regional or state technical or policy committees related to section programs. The position develops and manages the section’s budge and fiscal activities including grants, providing periodic reports to division management staff as appropriate. The position is a primary liaison with other state and federal departments (e.g. University of Wisconsin, DNR, USDA, U.S. Department of Interior and local units of government) and affected private industry and other organizations.
