Indiana Proposes Changes to Noxious Weed Seed List
- On October 3, 2017
The Indiana State Seed Commission is proposing rule changes to its noxious weed seed list. The proposal would add seed from any of the weed species listed on the most current USDA Federal Noxious Weed List, along with Columbus grass (Sorghum almum), Shattercane (Sorghum bicolor ssp. X. drummondii), Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense), Palmer Amaranth, Waterhemp, and any pigweed seed, or Amaranth seed (Amaranthus sp.). Perennial peppergrass (Lepidium draba) and Russian Knapweed (Centaurea repens) would be removed from the list. Amaranth species sold as vegetable seed or seed for ornamental landscape plants would be excluded from the rule.
The proposal is now reported as a notice of intent, with formal rule-making processes to follow, including a comment period.
