  • On September 12, 2024

The USDA Appalachian Fruit Research Station (AFRS) in Kearneysville, West Virginia, opened its doors to the seed industry, hosting the industry for the 4th Annual Advancements in Plant Breeding Symposium, organized by the Seed Science Foundation and the National Association of Plant Breeding. The symposium, which had over 50 U.S. government officials in attendance, was created as another means of engagement with policymakers and regulators to share information on the latest innovations in plant breeding.

The symposium’s agenda featured discussions on innovation in plant breeding, including work on fruit trees and grapes at the ARS AFRS, as well as updates from ASTA members Cibus, CoverCress, Norfolk Healthy Produce, and Pairwise. Attendees were able to sample healthy and delicious fruits developed by AFRS breeding programs.
