Update on USMCA Biotech Case

In early February, in response to losing a dispute under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the Government of Mexico revoked two articles in its 2023 presidential corn decree. Mexico’s changes eliminate both its previous ban on the use of genetically engineered (GE) corn in tortillas, and Mexico’s previous phase out of GE corn in other uses like animal feed. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) welcomed the announcement.
